Ziyarat Ashura

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ

Peace be on you, O Aba Abdullah!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ

Peace be on you, O son of the Messenger of Allah!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَابْنَ سَيِّدِ الْوَصِيِّينَ

Peace be on you, O son of the Commander of the Faithful and the son of the leader of the successors!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ابْنَ فَاطِمَةَ سَيِّدَةِ نِسَاءِ الْعَالَمِينَ

Peace be on you, O son of Fatima, the leader of the women of the worlds!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا ثَارَ اللَّهِ وَابْنَ ثَارِهِ وَالْوِتْرَ الْمَوْتُورَ

Peace be on you, O blood-tithe of Allah and the son of His blood-tithe, and the one whose blood has not yet been avenged!

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ وَعَلَى الْأَرْوَاحِ الَّتِي حَلَّتْ بِفِنَائِكَ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنِّي جَمِيعاً سَلاَمُ اللَّهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَبَقِيَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ

Peace be on you and on the souls that combined with you in your journey. I send you all the peace of Allah forever as long as I live and as long as the night and the day remain.

يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ لَقَدْ عَظُمَتِ الرَّزِيَّةُ وَجَلَّتْ وَعَظُمَتِ الْمُصِيبَةُ بِكَ عَلَيْنَا وَعَلَى جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ الْإِسْلاَمِ

O Aba Abdullah! Surely the tragedy is great and the calamity has been immense for us and for all the people of Islam.

وَجَلَّتْ وَعَظُمَتْ مُصِيبَتُكَ فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ عَلَى جَمِيعِ أَهْلِ السَّمَاوَاتِ

And surely your calamity has been immense and great in the heavens for all the inhabitants of the heavens.

فَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً أَسَّسَتْ أَسَاسَ الظُّلْمِ وَالْجَوْرِ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الْبَيْتِ

So, may Allah curse the people who laid the foundation of oppression and injustice against you, the Household of the Prophet.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً دَفَعَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَقَامِكُمْ وَأَزَالَتْكُمْ عَنْ مَرَاتِبِكُمُ الَّتِي رَتَّبَكُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهَا

And may Allah curse the people who pushed you away from your position and removed you from the ranks which Allah had granted you.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً قَتَلَتْكُمْ وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ الْمُمَهِّدِينَ لَهُمْ بِالتَّمْكِينِ مِنْ قِتَالِكُمْ

And may Allah curse the people who killed you. And may Allah curse those who paved the way for them by enabling them to fight you.

بَرِئْتُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُمْ وَمِنْ أَشْيَاعِهِمْ وَأَتْبَاعِهِمْ وَأَوْلِيَائِهِمْ

I turn to Allah and to you, away from them and from their followers, their adherents, and their friends.

يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ وَحَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

O Aba Abdullah! I am at peace with those who are at peace with you and at war with those who are at war with you until the Day of Resurrection.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ آلَ زِيَادٍ وَآلَ مَرْوَانَ وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ بَنِي اُمَيَّةَ قَاطِبَةً

And may Allah curse the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan. And may Allah curse the Umayyad family entirely.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ ابْنَ مَرْجَانَةَ وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ عُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ شِمْراً

And may Allah curse the son of Marjana. And may Allah curse Umar ibn Sa'd. And may Allah curse Shimr.

وَلَعَنَ اللَّهُ اُمَّةً أَسْرَجَتْ وَأَلْجَمَتْ وَتَنَقَّبَتْ لِقِتَالِكَ

And may Allah curse the people who saddled up and bridled and masked themselves to fight you.

بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَاُمِّي لَقَدْ عَظُمَ مُصَابِي بِكَ فَأَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَ مَقَامَكَ وَأَكْرَمَنِي بِكَ

May my father and mother be sacrificed for you! My sorrow for you is indeed great. So I ask Allah, who honored your station and honored me through you,

أَنْ يَرْزُقَنِي طَلَبَ ثَارِكَ مَعَ إِمَامٍ مَنْصُورٍ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ مُحَمَّدٍ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

To grant me the opportunity to seek your revenge with a victorious Imam from the Household of Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family).

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي عِنْدَكَ وَجِيهاً بِالْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ

O Allah! Make me distinguished in Your presence through Al-Husayn (peace be upon him) in this world and the hereafter.

يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَى رَسُولِهِ وَإِلَى أَمِيرِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَإِلَى فَاطِمَةَ وَإِلَى الْحَسَنِ وَإِلَيْكَ بِمُوَالاَتِكَ

O Aba Abdullah! I draw near to Allah, to His Messenger, to the Commander of the Faithful, to Fatima, to Al-Hasan, and to you by means of loyalty to you.

وَبِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِمَّنْ أَسَّسَ أَسَاسَ ذَلِكَ وَبَنَى عَلَيْهِ بُنْيَانَهُ وَجَرَى فِي ظُلْمِهِ وَجَوْرِهِ عَلَيْكُمْ وَعَلَى أَشْيَاعِكُمْ

And by means of disassociating from those who laid the foundation for this and built their structure upon it and continued their oppression and injustice against you and your followers.

بَرِئْتُ إِلَى اللَّهِ وَإِلَيْكُمْ مِنْهُمْ وَأَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ ثُمَّ إِلَيْكُمْ بِمُوَالاَتِكُمْ وَمُوَالاَةِ وَلِيِّكُمْ

I turn to Allah and to you, away from them, and I draw near to Allah and then to you by means of loyalty to you and loyalty to your friend.

وَبِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أَعْدَائِكُمْ وَالنَّاصِبِينَ لَكُمُ الْحَرْبَ وَبِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْ أَشْيَاعِهِمْ وَأَتْبَاعِهِمْ

And by means of disassociating from your enemies and those who wage war against you, and by disassociating from their followers and their adherents.

إِنِّي سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ وَحَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ وَوَلِيٌّ لِمَنْ وَالاَكُمْ وَعَدُوٌّ لِمَنْ عَادَاكُمْ

I am at peace with those who are at peace with you and at war with those who are at war with you, a friend to those who are friends with you and an enemy to those who are enemies with you.

فَأَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الَّذِي أَكْرَمَنِي بِمَعْرِفَتِكُمْ وَمَعْرِفَةِ أَوْلِيَائِكُمْ وَرَزَقَنِي الْبَرَاءَةَ مِنْ أَعْدَائِكُمْ

So I ask Allah, who honored me with the knowledge of you and the knowledge of your friends and granted me the disassociation from your enemies,

أَنْ يَجْعَلَنِي مَعَكُمْ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ وَأَنْ يُثَبِّتَ لِي عِنْدَكُمْ قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالْآخِرَةِ

To place me with you in this world and the hereafter, and to make firm for me a truthful stance in your presence in this world and the hereafter.

وَأَسْأَلُهُ أَنْ يُبَلِّغَنِي الْمَقَامَ الْمَحْمُودَ لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ وَأَنْ يَرْزُقَنِي طَلَبَ ثَارِي مَعَ إِمَامٍ هُدًى ظَاهِرٍ نَاطِقٍ بِالْحَقِّ مِنْكُمْ

And I ask Him to enable me to reach the praised station which you have with Allah, and to grant me the opportunity to seek my revenge with a guided Imam from among you who is manifest and speaks the truth.

وَأَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ بِحَقِّكُمْ وَبِالشَّأْنِ الَّذِي لَكُمْ عِنْدَهُ أَنْ يُعْطِيَنِي بِمُصَابِي بِكُمْ أَفْضَلَ مَا يُعْطِي مُصَاباً بِمُصِيبَتِهِ

And I ask Allah by your right and by the status you have with Him to give me, for my grief over you, the best that He gives to one who is in grief over his calamity.

مُصِيبَةً مَا أَعْظَمَهَا وَأَعْظَمَ رَزِيَّتَهَا فِي الْإِسْلاَمِ وَفِي جَمِيعِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ

A calamity, how great it is, and how immense its tragedy is for Islam and in all the heavens and the earth!

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنِي فِي مَقَامِي هَذَا مِمَّنْ تَنَالُهُ مِنْكَ صَلَوَاتٌ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَمَغْفِرَةٌ

O Allah! Place me in this position of mine among those who receive from You blessings, mercy, and forgiveness.

اَللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مَحْيَايَ مَحْيَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَمَمَاتِي مَمَاتَ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

O Allah! Make my life like the life of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and my death like the death of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ هَذَا يَوْمٌ تَبَرَّكَتْ بِهِ بَنُو اُمَيَّةَ وَابْنُ آكِلَةِ الْأَكْبَادِ اللَّعِينُ ابْنُ اللَّعِينِ عَلَى لِسَانِكَ وَلِسَانِ نَبِيِّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

O Allah! This is a day that was celebrated by the Umayyads and the son of the liver-eater, the cursed one, son of the cursed one, as spoken by Your tongue and the tongue of Your Prophet (peace be upon him and his family).

فِي كُلِّ مَوْطِنٍ وَمَوْقِفٍ وَقَفَ فِيهِ نَبِيُّكَ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ

In every place and every situation in which Your Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) stood.

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ أَبَا سُفْيَانَ وَمُعَاوِيَةَ وَيَزِيدَ بْنَ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْكَ اللَّعْنَةُ أَبَدَ الْآبِدِينَ

O Allah! Curse Abu Sufyan, Mu'awiyah, and Yazid ibn Mu'awiyah—may Your curse be upon them forever.

وَهَذَا يَوْمٌ فَرِحَتْ بِهِ آلُ زِيَادٍ وَآلُ مَرْوَانَ بِقَتْلِهِمُ الْحُسَيْنَ صَلَوَاتُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ

And this is a day in which the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan rejoiced for their killing of Al-Husayn (peace be upon him).

اَللَّهُمَّ فَضَاعِفْ عَلَيْهِمُ اللَّعْنَ مِنْكَ وَالْعَذَابَ الْأَلِيمَ

O Allah! Double the curse on them from You and the painful punishment.

اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَتَقَرَّبُ إِلَيْكَ فِي هَذَا الْيَوْمِ وَفِي مَوْقِفِي هَذَا وَأَيَّامِ حَيَاتِي

O Allah! I draw near to You on this day and in this position of mine and in the days of my life.

بِالْبَرَاءَةِ مِنْهُمْ وَاللَّعْنَةِ عَلَيْهِمْ وَبِالْمُوَالاَةِ لِنَبِيِّكَ وَآلِ نَبِيِّكَ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْهِمُ السَّلاَمُ

By means of disassociating from them and cursing them, and by means of loyalty to Your Prophet and the family of Your Prophet (peace be upon him and them).

Recite 100 Times

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ ظَلَمَ حَقَّ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَآخِرَ تَابِعٍ لَهُ عَلَى ذَلِكَ

O Allah! Curse the first oppressor who oppressed the right of Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and the last who followed him in that.

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ الْعِصَابَةَ الَّتِي جَاهَدَتِ الْحُسَيْنَ وَشَايَعَتْ وَبَايَعَتْ وَتَابَعَتْ عَلَى قَتْلِهِ اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْهُمْ جَمِيعاً

O Allah! Curse the group that fought Al-Husayn and the ones who shared in it, pledged allegiance to it, and followed it to kill him. O Allah! Curse them all.

Recite 100 Times

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَيْكَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَى الْأَرْوَاحِ الَّتِي حَلَّتْ بِفِنَائِكَ

Peace be on you, O Aba Abdullah, and on the souls that combined with you in your journey.

عَلَيْكَ مِنِّي سَلاَمُ اللَّهِ أَبَداً مَا بَقِيتُ وَبَقِيَ اللَّيْلُ وَالنَّهَارُ وَلاَ جَعَلَهُ اللَّهُ آخِرَ الْعَهْدِ مِنِّي لِزِيَارَتِكُمْ

On you from me is the peace of Allah forever as long as I live and as long as the night and the day remain. And may Allah not make this the last time I visit you.

اَلسَّلاَمُ عَلَى الْحُسَيْنِ وَعَلَى عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَعَلَى أَوْلاَدِ الْحُسَيْنِ وَعَلَى أَصْحَابِ الْحُسَيْنِ

Peace be on Al-Husayn, and on Ali ibn al-Husayn, and on the children of Al-Husayn, and on the companions of Al-Husayn.

اَللَّهُمَّ خُصَّ أَنْتَ أَوَّلَ ظَالِمٍ بِاللَّعْنِ مِنِّي وَابْدَأْ بِهِ أَوَّلاً ثُمَّ الثَّانِيَ وَالثَّالِثَ وَالرَّابِعَ

O Allah! Specialize the first oppressor with a particular curse from me, and begin with him first, then the second, the third, and the fourth.

اَللَّهُمَّ الْعَنْ يَزِيدَ خَامِساً وَالْعَنْ عُبَيْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ زِيَادٍ وَابْنَ مَرْجَانَةَ وَعُمَرَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ وَشِمْراً وَآلَ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ وَآلَ زِيَادٍ وَآلَ مَرْوَانَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ

O Allah! Curse Yazid fifthly, and curse Ubaydullah ibn Ziyad and the son of Marjana and Umar ibn Sa'd and Shimr and the family of Abu Sufyan and the family of Ziyad and the family of Marwan until the Day of Resurrection.

In Prostration (Sajdah)

اَللَّهُمَّ لَكَ الْحَمْدُ حَمْدَ الشَّاكِرِينَ لَكَ عَلَى مُصَابِهِمْ اَلْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى عَظِيمِ رَزِيَّتِي

O Allah! To You belongs the praise, the praise of the thankful ones to You for their calamity. Praise be to Allah for my great grief.

اَللَّهُمَّ ارْزُقْنِي شَفَاعَةَ الْحُسَيْنِ يَوْمَ الْوُرُودِ وَثَبِّتْ لِي قَدَمَ صِدْقٍ عِنْدَكَ مَعَ الْحُسَيْنِ وَأَصْحَابِ الْحُسَيْنِ الَّذِينَ بَذَلُوا مُهَجَهُمْ دُونَ الْحُسَيْنِ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ

O Allah! Grant me the intercession of Al-Husayn on the day of arriving [to You] and make firm for me a truthful stance in Your presence with Al-Husayn and the companions of Al-Husayn, those who sacrificed their lives for Al-Husayn (peace be upon him).
